RODERICHSEBASTIANEDELSTEIN
'ALRIGHT NOW THAT WE KNOW YOUR NAME LETS GET DOWN TO BASICS. WHY DID YOUR PARENTS NAME YOU THAT? ANY BIG SIGNIFICANCE TO YOUR NAME?'
I do not believe there is particular significance to my name. My grandfather on my mother's side was also named Roderich; apparently it has been passed down in our family. My father's brother's name is Sebastian. As he is very close to his brother, I believe my middle name is a sign of respect to my uncle. As for my last name, it is the family name.[/blockquote]
HOW ABOUT YOUR AGE, HOW OLD ARE YOU? ARE YOU IN COLLEGE OR HIGHSCHOOL, WHAT GRADE? A SENIOR JUNIOR SOPHMORE OR FRESHMAN?'
Currently, I am a graduate student going for a Doctorate of Musical Arts (D.M.A.). My specialty is piano performance. I am twenty-five years old and should be graduating soon.[/blockquote]
But also -- I believe it would be relevant here -- I have managed to finally get a job in order to support myself through the rest of graduate school, as being a concert pianist, while ideal, is rather hard to do when one is not yet out of school. I would assume it is hard to do even once one graduates, but as I have not yet graduated, I cannot say for sure. At any rate, I currently tend bar in a place called "Club Kusur." It is a typical club, and therefore I do feel like a fish out of water, but the job pays well and I can use some skills taught to me by my ever useful Uncle Sebastian. In addition, the job is part-time, which leaves me plenty of time for schooling. Also, being behind the bar separates me from the scantily-clad masses on the dance floor and allows me to wear decent clothing (i.e., a suit), for which I could not be more grateful. In this economy, one takes what one can get.
'THATS NICE, THAT YEAR WAS ALWAYS MY FAVORITE. SO ANYWHO, LETS TALK ABOUT SOMETHING THAT YOU LIKE, GIVE ME TEN THINGS THAT YOU ABSOLUTLY LOVE TO DO'
I enjoy many things and will endeavor to compose a list.[/blockquote]
- playing the piano (my instrument of choice)
- playing the violin (while the piano is my favorite instrument, I am also proficient with the violin and find that it is a fascinating and versatile instrument)
- listening to music (and of course by music I mean real music, which is to say classical music as performed by a symphony orchestra)
- Chopin (my favorite composer)
- Rachmaninoff (also known as Rachmaninov, and my second favorite composer)
- Beethoven (my third favorite)
- cake (good cake, of course; not cheap cake from cakemix or storebought birthday cake)
- saving money (a penny saved is a penny earned, and people can be so wasteful it shocks me)
- coffee (with sugar)
- cats (to a certain extent)
- reading (lately I have discovered a fondness for Russian novels such as Tolstoy's Anna Karenina)
'HMM, INTERESTING. WELL YOU KNEW THIS WAS COMING..HOW ABOUT DISLIKES?'
Let me see... It is difficult to decide on which of my dislikes I should elaborate here. It might take some time to compose a list, hmm...[/blockquote]
I dislike:
- spending money (like I said, a penny saved is a penny earned)
- likewise, wastefulness
- cleaning and otherwise doing chores (which I find mundane and unnecessary)
- sea creatures (especially crabs, lobsters, and other crustaceans)
- the ocean (though I do admit it is sometimes pretty to look at)
- swimming (which is not a recommendable endeavor)
- waking up early (while the sunrise, I have heard, is a pretty sight, it is not worth cutting short my sleep in the morning; getting a good night's sleep takes precedence over most other things except music and school)
- modern "music" (which scarcely deserves to be called 'music' in any sense of the word -- and by this I mean music from Elvis and onward)
- especially "Ke$ha" and "Lady Gaga" and the ridiculous artists that pass as appropriate music for this generation
- maps (it pains me to admit that I have a rather poor sense of direction and also have a hard time finding my way to places I have never been -- or even places I visit regularly. And I have never been able to read a map. I must say I am quite glad that such a thing as a handheld GPS unit was invented, though even this can be sometimes confusing.)
- my job (however, I will not get into detail regarding this dislike)
- a certain Gilbert Beilschmidt (once again, I will refrain from going into detail)
'WOW, THATS VERY INTRIGUING, YOU ARE A STRANGE YET UNIQUE PERSON.. WHY DONT YOU FURTHER ELABORATE ON YOURSELF, WHAT ARE YOU LIKE?'
What am I like...? I thought, by now, you would have a workable picture of my personality, but I suppose that was too much to ask. What am I like... let me see. I am not sure if this interests you, but in terms of height I am around 5'8". I have dark hair which I try to keep neat, but there is a certain few hairs at the top of my head that I can never slick down properly -- I have long since given up on trying. I also have violet eyes, inherited from my mother. I am told it is a very rare shade and in fact have met few people with an eye color similar to mine. I also wear glasses; I would be the first to admit that my eyesight is absolutely abominable without them. However, I also like the way glasses look on my face, which has made it unnecessary to get contacts. As for a defining feature... I suppose that would have to be the mole on my face by the lower left corner of my mouth. My mother referred to it as a beauty mark; I simply see it as a distinct marking and yet another thing that makes me unique. I also enjoy dressing nicely. And, I do not believe I mentioned this in my listing of likes and dislikes: I find it hard, many times, to truly understand people, and therefore find 'self-help' or 'understanding your partner' books quite useful. I take advice from books regularly. Finally, ah, what to end this with... I tend to be a quiet person, enjoying the more refined things in life. I hope this description is acceptable.[/blockquote]
'THATS COOL, WELL I KNOW ALL I NEED TO ABOUT YOU..HOW ABOUT THAT FAMILY OF YOURS EH? ARE THEY NORMAL, MESSED UP, SECRETIVE, BROKEN APART..WHAT?'
Broken apart...? Well, my family is, I believe, fairly typical. My mother Maria married my father Franz when she was twenty-eight and he was thirty-two. I am their only child and both are still living now. My mother has long, wavy brown hair and can be very forceful sometimes. My father is more on the quiet side, and it is from him that I have inherited my love of music (I would assume). While my grandparents all passed away before I reached the age of fifteen, my parents are still living comfortably in a small town in Pennsylvania, the town in which I grew up. In the interests of privacy I will refrain from naming it, but it is a very idyllic, rural place. I visit home when I can, though those visits have become less often now that I have moved here and become very busy with my work and my degree. However we are in regular contact and there is no bad blood between us.[/blockquote]
'WOW, NICE FAMILY TREE. WELL WHAT ABOUT YOUR HISTORY, WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE MOMENT IN YOUR LIFE SO FAR'
I would have to say my favorite moment so far was when my uncle Sebastian gave me a grand piano, when I was about five years old. It was actually a gift to the family -- Uncle Sebastian was involved in some lucrative businesses and always had money to lavish on us in the form of gifts and other things. But from the moment I laid eyes on the instrument, I was determined to be able to play it, and play it well. One could say that grand piano (which my parents still have at their home, incidentally) changed my life. However, another memory I find quite pleasant is the day I got my acceptance letter from the music school here. It is quite elite, and when I auditioned I did not allow myself to count on getting in. But I did, and am rather proud of that fact.[/blockquote]
'HOW ABOUT YOUR WORST MEMORY?'
My worst memory? I have a lot of bad memories since I started working in this club, to begin with, but as you are affiliated with said club I will refrain from mentioning them here. Other than those memories, I would have to say my worst memory is from my childhood, when I was, I believe, about eleven years old. My family and the Hédervárys, close friends of my parents, had gone to the seashore. I was dared by the eldest Héderváry daughter, Elizaveta, to race with her as far into the water as I could. While she was a capable swimmer I, on the other hand, was not, and so the race became a very, very unpleasant experience. I believe this will explain some of the dislikes I have listed above.[/blockquote]
'WELL THATS GOOD, I THINK IVE ASKED EVERYTHING I NEED TO ASK, IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WISH TO TELL ME BEFORE I GO?'
I do not believe so... However, feel free to contact me with any remaining questions you might have. You may reach me through email (which would be the advisable option), my cellphone, or the supervisors at my workplace.[/blockquote]
THE ROLEPLAYER
'HI IM LAUR, WHAT CAN I CALL YOU?'
Katie, Indigo, Indy, Austria, Roddypants, hey you -- I don't discriminate.[/blockquote]
'AND HOW OLD ARE YOU?'
18 and three months![/blockquote]
'COOL COOL, WHAT IS YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH RPING?'
Let's see. I roleplay as France on three forums, so I'm mostly used to him, but I have roleplayed as him before, mostly on IM roleplays. I'm excited, though, because this should be fun![/blockquote]
'ALRIGHT, ONE LAST THING. WOULD YOU EVER BE WILLING TO HELP ME ADMIN IF I NEEDED IT?'
Yeees? But I've never been an admin before so you might want to pick someone before me ahahaha.[/blockquote]Roderich stood at the entry to the music school. Well. He had made it this far, hadn't he? Only a few steps more and he would be officially enrolled as a graduate student for piano performance. It was quite exciting -- this was, more or less, the goal at which his whole life had been directed. So why was he hesitating?
He hated new things.
Steeling himself, he stepped forward and through the gated arch. The architecture, at least, was functional, if not beautiful; about what could be expected for Nevada. And the weather was hot, but cooling off as they were entering the fall. And there were not so many people here walking around, at least not now -- he imagined it could get quite crowded later, during passing periods or the beginning of the day...
He held the map out in front of him. Now he had to navigate from the front gate to the main building which should be directly to the left and then straight down a road... He looked to the left and there was a road. Good. But was he holding the map wrong? He held it far away from his eyes and squinted. Was it the right way? He looked up and around, squinting at the bright blue sky. Was it?
He frowned at the map again, pulling it closer to his face. Well, he wasn't going to end up any closer by just standing here, as Elizaveta would tell him (he imagined). He took a deep breath and set off. At least he was here -- the main building could wait.
hiya! just so yah know this template was made by THATGIRLLAUREN?!
